Easy Installation Instructions for a Standard Firstmate System

If you've recently purchased a Firstmate Boat Lift Remote Control System, congratulations! You're well on your way to faster, safer launching and docking with your boat. Purchasing the system is the easy part. Once you've received your system, you'll need to install it properly so as to avoid any malfunctions. This week, Firstmate Controls is going to go over the installation process of a standard system to make this task as easy as possible for you.

Getting Started
First and foremost, installation and service should be performed by a qualified installer. To avoid the risk of electric shock, ALWAYS disconnect power to your dock before installing a Firstmate system or any of its components. Use only cordless tools for installation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or death. Always securely tie off your vessel to your dock. Firstmate, Inc. assumes no liability for damages resulting from the user's failure to securely restrain their vessel.

Second, make sure you've got all the necessary tools and components to complete the task at hand.

Tools required:
  • Cordless drill
  • An appropriate drill bit for the mounting hardware used
  • 5/16” nut driver
  • Tubing cutter or hacksaw
  • Wrenches for mounting hardware used
Component checklist:
  • Blower Cover with lid
  • Frame assembly
  • Receiver assembly w/ 14 foot receiver cable and antennae
  • Keyfob supplied
  • Owner's manual
Installing the Blower Box.
Locate the desired position of blower box. Check to see that the power cord will reach the nearest power outlet. The placement should be located with the blower box cover placed over the frame. Remove the blower box cover. Keep the screws and washers for re-installation of cover. Mark the 4 mounting holes from the blower box frame and drill through the dock decking. Mount the frame to the dock using 5/16” x 2 1/2” bolts, washers and nuts. Do not mount the blower box cover at this time.

Installing the Receiver.
Locate the mounting position of the receiver within 12 feet (including rise) of the blower box, near the roof of the dock. This location should be in a sheltered area of the dock or located in a suitable weatherized container minimizing the potential exposure to rain. Mount the receiver with the antennae POINTING DOWN. Attach the Antennae. Attach the receiver cable to the receiver. Run the cable to the blower box and install in the jack labeled "REMOTE" on the controller assembly.

Finishing the Installation.
Mount lift hoses to nipples on blower box (tank side of the Firstmate™ valves). Re-Install the blower box cover using ¼” sheet metal screws and large diameter wash
ers. Plug the Firstmate™ into the power outlet. Restore power to the outlet. Test the key fob by holding DN button to activate lift (strobe should flash & handles should turn); Press & hold UP button to close valves (handles should turn back to Hold & strobe stop flashing).

This completes the installation of the Firstmate system. Yes, it really is that simple! Please refer to your Owner's Manual for further operating instructions to ensure proper usage of the system. Remember to never use your remote control without being present at the lift. If your lift is not raising or lowering in a level position, stop the lift and correct the problem. Stay clear of the lift while it is in operation. One of the best parts about owning a Firstmate control system is that we offer the best support around.
