LET'S GET READY FOR BOATING IN 2023!

The weather outside might be frightful, but this is the perfect time to get prepared for next year's boating season! Have you found yourself daydreaming or spending time staring out at the water reminiscing about the great times you had on the water this past season? Firstmate Controls understands your frustration. We want to share some great ideas to occupy your time during these cold winter months that will get you excited and ready for next year's boating season!

Inspect Your Life Preservers
Lifejackets that don't get used much and spend most of their time tucked away in the wells of your boat may not be in as good of shape as they should be. Even though they might not get used that often, they still need to be in top shape if there were an incident that arises that you will need to use a lifejacket. If yours aren't in good condition they're not going to be much help in saving a life. Take time to visually inspect every lifejacket for rips, tears, holes, etc. Make sure that all the straps are intact and not frayed or torn. Check zippers and waist buckles for proper functionality.

Brush Up On Your Boating Knowledge

No matter how much of a boating expert you consider yourself to be, there is always room for improvement and education. If you are comfortable with your knowledge of your boat - its inner workings, safety precautions, and tips/tricks to make boating easier - you can venture out to other boating topics that might interest you. Do you know all the proper knotting techniques a sailor should know? It's not only a fun topic to explore but could be a very useful skill to have as well.

Research New Places to Boat

We all have our favorite place to take our boat to, and if you have a lakefront home with a dock, you're more than likely content just jumping on the lake where you live. Every now and then, though, it's fun to check out new places. Take some time this winter to research other great boating locations - whether it be one of the top recreational lakes in Missouri, a new-to-you river, or somewhere out of state. Explore your options and make a plan to visit somewhere new - ADVENTURE IS CALLING!
Get Your Fishing Gear Ready
Okay, we know that this is definitely one of the things you're missing the most. So much so, that you may even be braving the cold when you have the chance to cast a line or two and hope for a bite. And if you're a super angler, you've probably got plans to go gigging as well! But what you're really thinking about is the game fishing this spring. Now's the time to organize your fishing gear, do some research to find out what works best for the species you're aiming to catch in the spring and get your fishing rods ready to go! And of course, it's never too early to start planning those springtime fishing trips and tournaments that are just a few short months away!

Get a Firstmate Control System
Be proactive this winter season and take the work out of boating before the next boating season gets here! The Firstmate system can automatically set your boat to one of three levels: Up, Board, or Down. When your boat reaches the desired level, the system shuts off automatically.
