All You Need to Know about the Missouri Boaters Course

Everyone wants to captain a boat or personal watercraft at some point in their life.  With the waterways filled with boats and PWC’s in the warm months, it’s nice to know that Missouri requires some boaters to take the Missouri Boating Safety course.  Firstmate Controls believes in water safety for everyone who will be enjoying time on the water.  Below you will find out all the details of how to sign up and what to expect while taking the course.

Missouri Boating Education Requirements

All operators born after January 1, 1984, must have the Missouri Boating Safety Certification Card to legally operate a motorized vessel or personal watercraft (PWC) on any Missouri lake. Motorboat or PWC operators must be 14 years of age or older unless under the direct supervision of a person 16 years or older.  There is no minimum age requirement to take the online course and you do not have to be a Missouri resident to register.

Taking the course online makes it easy for anyone to become certified and ready for safe boating.  To get the process started go to https://www.boat-ed.com/missouri/ and register for the course.  The course is not free, the fees are $24.50 course fee and a $17.00 state fee.  These fees will be due at registration.

In these 3 easy steps you will be ready to jump in the captain’s seat.

  1. Register
  2. Study and pass the course
  3. Print your online course completion document.

What to Expect from Boaters Education Course

Live-Action, High Definition Videos

Professional educators have doubled as actors in live-action videos to give the students the most effective way to learn safe boating practices.  These videos will include entertaining storylines and up to date scenarios.

Comprehensive Instruction in Missouri Boating Safety Education

An official training program has been developed to meet the standards for boaters safety education established by the state of Missouri.  Boat Ed is the only safety course provider that develops print materials on behalf of Missouri government agencies responsible for boating laws and regulations.  A study guide will be provided for everyone taking the course online.

The study guide is broken down into 6 units.

  1. Before getting underway
  2. Getting out on the water
  3. Navigation and safe operation
  4. Missouri’s legal requirements of boating
  5. Boating emergencies
  6. Enjoying water sports

You can get a preview of the study guide prior to registering, but you will need to register to start the process of earning your certificate.

Course Available on any Device

The online course is mobile-friendly from start to finish.  The course can be taken on desktops, tablets, laptops, or a smartphone.

Saved Progress

Most people complete the course within a few hours; however, you can complete the course at your own pace.  Boat Ed saves your progress and you can log in and out at any time and your progress will be saved.

Once you have passed the course you will receive a Boaters Education Card.  If you were born January 1, 1984, or after you will need to carry this card with you anytime you are operating a motorized vessel on the water.

At Firstmate Controls we would also suggest that anyone who is operating a vessel is trained on operating the boat lift.  With the Firstmate Boat Lift Remote Control training, a new captain will be easy and safe.  For questions about our boat lift remote control call us at 866-570-9707 or visit our website www.FirstmateControls.com.
