Get Ready to De-Winterize the Boat!
Spring is less than a week away, which means boating season is just around the corner! Firstmate Controls has the best boat lift control systems and boating accessories for your time out on the water. In the fall we talked about how to winterize your boat, so it's only fair to help you get through the de-winterization process as well! Read on to learn all about it!
Engine Check
Make sure that your engine is in top condition before the season officially begins so that you can avoid any engine issues while out on the water. Part of a good and thorough engine check includes an oil change as well as changing the oil filter.
Check the Battery
It is possible that your boat's battery died over the winter. Make sure your battery is fully charged and operational before heading out on the water. The last thing you want to happen is to head out for your fun day on the Lake only to realize your boat's battery has died. It can take an entire day for a boat battery to fully charge, so make sure you prepare ahead of time for your day on the water.
Refill Cooling System
In the fall during winterization, we drained our cooling systems to protect them from freezing and bursting. Check all the lines and hoses for holes or cracks that may have occurred and have them repaired if necessary. Once everything is confirmed as being in good condition, refill the cooling system to get the boat ready for the season.
Check on the Fuel System
This is another area that is important to check when de-winterizing your boat. Perform a detailed check of the area to make sure there are no cracks or holes in the lines. It's also a good idea to replace the fuel filter for the new season.
Drain the gas from the fuel system. (You don't have to do this step if you put an additive in the gas during winterization.) Refill the tank with gas combined with a non-ethanol-containing additive.
Check for Worn Belts
Now is a great time to check on the belts in your boat to make sure they are all in top condition for the summer season. Your belts should not have a lot of give to them when you press down. If they do, it is time to replace them. Another great way to check on whether or not the belts in your boat are worn is to look for soot, which means there could be a problem.
