Boating Habits To Make in 2021

Did you check to see if there are ENOUGH life jackets on board?

It is the law to have enough life jackets on board for every one on the boat. They don't necessarily need to be worn, but they need to be easy to get to. If you aren't already in the habit of doing this, this is DEFINITELY a habit you need to get into.

Did you check the weather forecast BEFORE heading out on the water?

This is Missouri. The weather is incredibly unpredictable. One day it may be sunny and the next it may be snowing. It once snowed in Missouri in the month of May! The point here is to check the weather BEFORE heading out on the lake. It's no fun to be stuck out on the water in the middle of a thunderstorm or just bad weather, in general. Be prepared! This is just a safe habit to get into.

Did you check your gas level BEFORE heading out too far?

Have you ever ran out of gas in the middle of the lake? Guess what. This DOES happen. It likely happens WAY more often that it should. There's an easy solution. Check your gas level BEFORE heading out on the water.

Did you check your cooler for enough DRINKING WATER?

Stay hydrated! We can't stress this enough. It gets HOT in Missouri too. You don't want to be out in the middle of the lake and have a passenger get overheated to the point where there is a medical emergency. Keep drinking water in your cooler. Pack enough for the entire day, just in case.

Did you check to make sure you have enough SUNSCREEN on board if you're going to be out all day?

The sun is typically at its strongest toward the middle of the day. Those UV rays can be incredibly damaging to your skin. These effects can go beyond just your typical sun burn too. Prevent this from happening by making sure you have plenty of sunscreen on board, enough for the whole day. You may need to reapply multiple times throughout the day.
