Some History About How We Got Started The story of why Firstmate Controls began starts with an avoidable injury. Owner's John and Julie worked together back in their dating years to put the boat away after a day out on the Mississippi. John would clean the outside of the boat, while Julie cleaned the inside. As usual, John had lifted the boat while Julie was onboard cleaning,  and then he stepped away.
